Majority = Worthless?

The other day we were discussing whether majority should truly rule or not. Mr. Wille, who is a strong American believer in the concept of Majority rules, said it definitely should, and he received many retaliations in the classroom, opposing his views.

Socrates also disagreed with Mr. Wille, saying that the majority is "worthless."

Do you agree with Socrates? Or with Mr. Wille?

Should majority rule?

If not, than who or what will rule?

Does majority actually decide one's reputation? How? If not, who does?

And if majority is completely worthless, as Socrates says, does it account for anything at all?

The HSMSE Society

Today, Mr. Devecka had introduced the idea the hot and cold society from reading the Apology dialogue, where the idea of the hot society is one where the rules that regulate society is understood and known by the people of the society and the idea of the cold society is one where the rules aren't necessarily known, but is implied. Which idea of society correctly applies to the rules and regulations that we have here in HSMSE? Explain and connect to back to other aspects that Mr. Devecka mentioned in his lecture.

Giving a Defensive Agrument

Today, we debated on whether Socrates gave a good defensive argument or a bad defensive argument in the Apology. In a brief description of what was discussed in classed, state whether or not Socrates gave a valid argument in his defense and explain your reasons for why or why not.

Human Qualities vs. Animal Qualities

On Thursday, we discussed that a horse has certain qualities that it possesses that is uniform for most horses. We also discussed that humans can have similar qualities, but to be human is to be more than just a list of qualities.

Why is it different for a human to possess certain qualities and for a horse possess certain qualities? How are humans different in that they can't just be described from a list of qualities? Why are we different from horses in that sense?

Horse qualities:
-strong
-fast
-obedient
-healthy
-beautiful
-good teeth

Human qualities:
-strong
-fast
-healthy
-beautiful
-intelligent
-language

These two lists may or may not help you, but notice that humans and horses share certain qualities. Discuss why a horse's qualities are different from human qualities. Think about how they're obtained and what it means to have them.

Please remember to put your name on your blog posts, and to use proper grammar and spelling.
