Descartes' First Meditation (Part I)
In the first part of the first meditation, Descartes comes to the conclusion that subjects such medicine, astronomy, and physics can be doubted while subjects such as mathematics cannot. What is the difference between these types of subjects and why can some be doubted and others known for sure.

Medicing, astronomy, physics, etc. are highly significant to discoveries and advancement, however a setback of these things, is that people deal with the truths related to these. The fact that humans deal with matters like these and interpret "results" through a series of trial-and-error and observations, use their SENSES to acquire solutions and truths. However in mathematics, YOU CAN'T USE YOUR SENSES...maybe finding solutions is by using deductions....but the difference is that there's only one solution that is incorporated into the field of medicine, physics, astronomy, etc, therefore proving that it's the fundamental to those subjects.
Subjects such as medicine, astronomy, and physics can be doubted while subjects such as mathematics cannot. These subjects such as medicine and physics are extremely broad. They rely on many of factors, where as a subject such as mathematics is a simple and straight to the point as possible.

Medicine cant be trusted because of its uses. Some drugs were made to kill and if you just happen to take that...well good-bye. Even with all advanced technology, No one ever took a really long ruler and measured the distance from here to the sun or measure energy and things like those. Math on the other hand is simple. Eveything always has one set answer. Simple things with simple answers are like facts drilled into your brain because people voluntary say 4 to something like 2+2 since that example is sued to often.
The difference between such subjects as medicine, astronomy, physics and mathematics is based on dreams. Decartes reasons that what we can not doubt in our awake state, which may not be now, can not be doubted in our state of dreams either. Since medicine, astronomy and physics do not comply to this standard thought, they are not definate subjects, but are rather doubtful. However, in both states, mathematical equations are the same. We know whether we're awake or sleeping, two plus two is four- there is no doubt about it.
